Autumn Moon Festival

Yesterday and today have been filled with celebrations for the Autumn Moon Festival. Yesterday we had a picnic at the park with our "preschool" friends, made crafts, ate food, and had fun, fun, fun playing together. The group is in the process of regenerating itself. We are getting more and more new familes with young babies who have recently come home. That is the nature of the group, it always has been. Children grow up, and there is nothing we can do about it. Along those lines, another bittersweet aspect of the day was remembering that Hayden attended last year's moon festival festivities with us. She had the day off from school and came along with Ryan Ashton and a jug of orange juice in tow. A lot has changed in one year's time. Hayden is at college, Ryan Ashton is no longer with us and is, instead, at his little school, and Lia, who also accompanied us, is at her new school.
We did have one mom who saw us at the park yesterday and walked over with her daughter (also from China) to see what was going on. It was quite obvious that we were not your average group of friends congregating together for a day in the park (with the girls all dressed up in their traditional clothes). We invited her to join us, she did, and her daughter immediately fell into step with the older girls. They will be a wonderful addition to the group.

Today we celebrated again with our "school-age" friends. Again, the girls dressed up and we headed off to a friend's house for food, crafts, and fun, fun, fun. The girls made paper lanterns and Jade Rabbit pictures. Then one of the moms had bought "glow stick" lanterns. Once it got dark, we took the girls out for a little parade. These were two jam-packed days.
